Shaping & planing wooden cores

My runner planks’ core material is samba wood also known as abachi. When you google for most common applications you will not find iceboat’s runner plank. Strange.

It is very light wood and easy in processing however it covers everything in dust even if you have dust collection system.

The lightest wooden core ever was 2,54kg, the heavies 4,55kg. In average core weight oscilates between 3,4-3,6kg in most of the cases.

Moth sailing

I am happy moth owner since March this year. For a sailor dealing with traditional sailing for couple of decades moth sailing is whole different sailing experience. Very , very demanding class. I have only few more days sailing scheduled for October.

The good thing is downwind is alike iceboat.

Icesailing is coming in fast!

Swedish fail

Early January 2021 Robert and myself could not wait for first ice in Poland. At the same time ice report from Sweden was very promising. We delayed the trip 3 times and  finally we found best weather window to enjoy sailing. And weather defeated us. All wind forecasts were wrong. Fellow snow showed up and after one day at beautiful Orsa Camp we decided to go back home.

In sunny windless day we had fantastic skating. This is also part of iceboating.

P.S. Lake Orsasjon is on our black list due to unpredictable wind forecasts.

Knee steering fixture

Steering with your knees is nothing unusual. Telescopic type of tiller is straight and requires  additional fixture to be grabbed by the knees. This is just another idea of how it could be done. This piece od DN jewelery is 3D printed with carbon fibre filament making it very strong and super light with only 34 grams (1.2 oz).

This particular fixture is designed for 34mm in diameter tiller pipe but can be customized to any desired cross section. In my case it is used for Vaiko Vooremaa’s hull.
